By the end of this module, we hope that you will be able to:

• understand the prevalence and presentation of common medical illnesses in the elderly

• arrive at an appropriate diagnosis by interpreting the findings from history and physical examination

• interpret results of investigations in the context of the individual patient with psychiatric/physical illness

• manage chronic illnesses, applying basic principles of treatment and using clinical guidelines

• refer to medical specialities (emergency and non-emergency) appropriately.
