About the authors

Aliya Kassam, BSc (Hons), MSc

 

Aliya KassamAliya Kassam is the Project Coordinator of the Anti-Stigma Training and Evaluation Collaboration (ASTEC) study in the Health Service and Population Research Department at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London, where she is currently pursuing her PhD.

 

Miss Kassam completed both her BSc (Hons) in Psychology and her MSc in Epidemiology at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. Her research expertise is in stigma and discrimination and psychiatric epidemiology.

Graham Thornicroft, FRCPsych, PhD, FMedSci

Graham ThornicroftGraham Thornicroft is Professor of Community Psychiatry, and Head of the multi-disciplinary Health Service and Population Research Department at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London.

 

Professor Thornicroft is a Consultant Psychiatrist and is Director of Research and Development at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. He chaired the External Reference Group for the National Service Framework for Mental Health in England.

 

His areas of research expertise include: stigma and discrimination, mental health needs assessment, the development of outcome scales, cost-effectiveness evaluation of mental health treatments, and mental health services in less economically developed countries. 

 

He has authored 20 books and over 170 papers in peer reviewed journals.
