The United Kingdom’s
Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board
(PMETB) is responsible for all postgraduate medical
education and assessment of Doctors completing final postgraduate
training. It is in charge of establishing, maintaining and
monitoring standards relating to medical training, primarily in the
National Health Service. Major responsibilities include:
- certification role
- medical regulation in the UK
- standard setting for academic and International
developments.
Doctors completing core and specialist
training receive a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
However, doctors who are unable to enter a specialist training
programme but meet the requirements of equivalence may apply
– via Article 14 – to PMETB for a
Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration
(CESR); and for their name to go on the Specialist
Register held by General Medical Council.
This module is designed to enable the
applicant to successfully complete the onerous task of
submitting an Article 14 application.
